Stage 1: The Wildlife Project

And we are off! The Wildlife Project is very much underway as we soar into 2024.

The Wildlife Project is the development of an interactive audio theatre performance, which explores the diverse wildlife found on the Isle of Man… the difference is, this project is made WITH and FOR young people.

You can find out more details here.

How do you go about making a piece of collaborative theatre with young people?

This month we have jumped into the Research & Development stage of the process (R&D). This is essentially mood boarding, and taking in lots of information and ideas.

1) We have had conversations with Manx Wildlife Trust (MWT) experts David & Lara - they shared what excites most about their roles and wildlife - including what got them there and why.

2) We went on a magical Manx Wildlife mystery tour with MWT team Lucy, Hannah and Beth. This was mega - from rockpooling to tree planting, gardening to eco-friendly farming.

3) Initial conversations with our wonderful sound designer David Kilgallon - exploring ideas and big picture conversations.

4) Planning our workshops with Young People. This is super key to facilitate a process that is exploratory and allows young people to truly express what they think and feel about Wildlife.

5) Delivering workshops! We had the pleasure of working with Kewaigue School Year 2’s, Laxey School Year 3’s and our brilliant group of Youth Collaborators (aged 11-18). These were awesome and left us with so much to take forward into the next stage….

But what is the next stage?

Well, all of these juicy ideas, thoughts, feelings, inspiration, information is pulled together and we develop a concept for the piece of theatre. Were still talking broad brushstrokes and we are being led wholeheartedly by the workshops with the young people.
